Not to be out of memory, the 2019 Election—held under normal circumstances—has taken many casualties. Data shows that a total of 894 officers of the Voting Organizing Group (KPPS) died while running errands at polling stations (TPS). As many as 70 percent of them are over the age of 40.

KPPS officers, especially those over the age of 40, will face similar threats if they serve in the 2020 General Election. This age group is the age group most susceptible to Covid-19 to death.

"Are Indonesia prepared to bear the burden of putting these people in the job with a high risk to their safety?" said Elina Ciptadi, Cofounder kawalCOVID19.id, in the press conference "Civil Society Coalition Attitude Statement: Postpone Election 2020 for the Safety of Citizens" (22/9).

Elina explained, when referring to kawalCOVID19.id data, the covid-19 case mortality rate for the 40-45 year old age group in Indonesia reached 1.98 percent. This is still higher than Italy (0.87 percent), South Korea (0.19 percent), Singapore (0.03 percent), and China (1.30 percent). The death rate for Covid-19 cases in Indonesia is higher—up to 6.81 percent—for the 46-59 age group.

On the basis of the data, Elina judged the Indonesian government should postpone elections to protect people who provide time for important tasks for the country. The government should think about the safety of them and the safety of the voters.

"Right now is not a safe time to do an election," elina said
