The Central Information Commission (KIP) of the Republic of Indonesia organized public information education for the 2024 Elections. Participants were students who will also be part of the collaboration in election participation.

“Therefore, civil society needs to be revitalized, and students have a significant role in promoting public participation and transparency," said Deputy Chair of the Central Information Commission (KIP), Arya Sandiyudha, during the opening of the Coaching Clinic on Public Information Transparency with the theme "The Strategic Role of Students in Ensuring Electoral Information Transparency for an Open 2024 Election," in Central Jakarta (26/9).

Arya explained that a clean, good, and democratic government is not enough. According to him, there must be an open and public-participation-driven government.

"So, we can't just rely on procedural democracy. Because now those in power are gathering resources for their own interests," he expressed.

KIP member Syawaludin stated that in the era of information technology, public openness is one of the crucial human rights aspects for democracy. This is guaranteed in Article 28F of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.

"It means that when human rights cannot be obtained or are obstructed, there is a violation. The same goes for elections," said Syawal.

Election information is generated, stored, managed, transmitted, and received by the election organizers. This process, from planning to completion, can be accessed through the Public Information Service (PPID) of the General Election Commission.

KIP, together with students, can network and collaborate to create a conducive environment for democracy. The position of students lies within a non-authoritarian approach, which can promote the presence of public information openness and layered oversight of democracy. []
