The Executive Director of the Network for Democracy and Electoral Integrity (NETGRIT), Hadar Nafis Gumay, urged the Election Supervisory Honorary Council (DKPP) to immediately impose strict sanctions on the KPU. Until now, the KPU has not heeded the decision of the Supreme Court (MA) regarding women's representation in the legislature.

“Until today, the KPU's efforts to ensure that political parties nominate at least 30 percent of women are invisible. "There are even attempts by election organizers to evade and stall," said Hadar in a discussion entitled "Maintain Election Quality: KPU Complies with Supreme Court Decision—DKPP Firmly Sanctions Organizers", online (6/10).

General Election Commission Regulation (PKPU) Number 10 of 2023 has not been revised by the KPU. Meanwhile, the nomination process has entered the final stage, where on November 4, 2023, the KPU will determine and announce the Permanent Candidate List (DCT).

With this regulation not having been revised, this will have an impact on the number of Provisional Candidate Lists (DCS), which do not meet 30 percent female representation. Based on the DCS KPU announcement, he noted that there were no less than 7,971 candidate lists.

The former member of the 2012–2017 KPU assessed that the election organizers did not act independently and professionally. In this context, the KPU gives political parties space to nominate less than 30 percent of women. According to him, if the PKPU has not yet been revised, it will damage the affirmation regulatory system that is regulated by law.

"The hope is that DKPP will correct this big problem with the election organizers. DKPP must be able to act firmly, be objective, and be fair by imposing heavy sanctions on the organizers, especially the KPU. "Because the risk is that our election will fall apart," he said. []
