The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) and TikTok Indonesia have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to uphold the integrity of information related to the 2024 Elections. Both institutions aim to provide youth and first-time voters with healthy election information, free from hoaxes, defamation, and ethnicity, religion, race, and inter-group relations (SARA) deviations.
"But now, we hope that with TikTok and several platforms that will collaborate with Bawaslu, we will enhance a more argumentative and reasonable election," said the Chair of Bawaslu, Rahmat Bagja, during the signing ceremony of the MoU at the Bawaslu office in Central Jakarta (9/18).
Bagja hopes that TikTok and other social media platforms will establish themselves as reference points for seeking information about the election and maintaining the integrity of our social media landscape. This MoU is one of the risk mitigation measures against the social media issues we encountered during the previous 2019 elections.
"Contestants will compete in a healthy manner, engaging in arguments through videos and speeches. This is what future voters will hold onto to make their choices on February 14, 2024," he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for TikTok Indonesia, Firry Wahid, stated that this collaboration is TikTok's commitment to promoting the integrity of the election. TikTok Indonesia has provided a special channel for Bawaslu to combat the spread of misinformation content about the 2024 Elections on our platform throughout the election period.
"There will be a special channel for Bawaslu where the public can submit complaints related to misinformation," said Firry in his remarks. []
